At the factory in Gifu Prefecture, we have commenced the production of candle holders.
Remarkably, this time, we received an order from the Greek cuisine restaurant "THE APOLLO GINZA" located on the 11th floor of Tokyu Plaza Ginza. Drawing inspiration from the columns of the Acropolis in Greece, we designed the candle holders.
While imagining the completion through photos of the production process, please enjoy the journey.
Let us walk you through the process of transforming a massive marble block into exquisite candle holders, step by step.
The general flow is as follows:
Marble Selection
Cutting and Processing the Marble Block to Match the Sizes of Each Candle Holder Part
Forming Each Part
Polishing Each Part
Assembling the Parts together
Let's begin now.
1.Marble Selection
After finalizing the design, we carefully chose a marble called Bianco Broye, which complements the atmosphere of the restaurant and the candle holder design.
2.Cutting and Processing the Marble Block to Match the Sizes of Each Candle Holder Part
Moving the heavy marble to the cutting table, we use a specialized machine to cut it to the size of each part. To prevent dust from flying during the cutting process, water is sprayed.
Here is a photo midway through the process of forming the parts. At this point, only the designer can probably recognize which part is which…
This candle holder involves a challenging step of cutting small parts at an angle, creating sharp edges in the marble. Cutting small parts at an angle with a large machine without breaking the marble is no easy task. The skill of the craftsman is evident, especially considering that different types of marble have varying strengths and susceptibilities to breaking.
Behold, the creation of these small parts!
Now, what shape will they take from here?
We will introduce the remaining steps in "Commencement of Candle Holder Production - Part 2," so please stay tuned.
